Twitter for real estate agents: tips from expert Katie Lance

The bird is the word. Or rather, the bird is about 140 characters.

These days, Twitter is nearing old school status when it comes to social media marketing, but many real estate agents aren’t quite sure how to use it or why. That’s where social expert Katie Lance comes in. Because she used to be in the same boat.

“I remember when I first joined, I totally didn’t get it,” she admitted. “But over the past 6 or 7 years I’ve really grown to love Twitter and it’s been a huge tool for growing my business.”

And she wants to help you love it, too. Here’s how.

  1. Know the lingo. Check out Katie’s comprehensive introduction post, Twitter Tips and Tricks. This will help you understand the difference between a handle and a hashtag, and much more.
  2. Balance Twitter and Facebook. You do have the option to automatically publish everything you tweet on your Facebook page. Resist this temptation! “It’s one of my pet peeves,” warned Katie. “Remember that each platform is different and you should tailor your message for each; treat each platform natively.”
  3. Take the time to make it a habit. Schedule five minutes for yourself to check in, post and participate, until it becomes a habit.

Katie also goes into ways to manage your social streams, how to search for specific topics and ways to build your followers. Read the full article here. Then tweet her hello @KatieLance and tell her @Adwerx sent you!
